California State Fund Offers Restaurant-Safety Training Program

April 26, 2006

California’s State Compensation Insurance Fund will sponsor a free restaurant-safety training program at its Oxnard office on April 27. The workshop is designed to help restaurant supervisors and owners create a comprehensive safety-training program and comply with state and federal workplace regulations.

The featured speaker for the program will be Carol Frischman, director of the Youth Project for the UCLA’s Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program. Carol also coordinates the Restaurant Supervisor Safety Training Program at UCLA’s LOSH, a public service branch of the University’s Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH).

The workshop will demonstrate how restaurant supervisors and owners can meet Cal/OSHA requirements by:
*Providing a one-hour safety training tailored to individual restaurants.
*Engaging workers in safety programs.
*Identifying ways to prevent injuries.

The seminar is from 2-4 p.m. at State Fund’s Oxnard District Office, 2901 North Ventura Road. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. and free parking is available. Refreshments will be served at the event. Workshop participants will receive educational materials including training guides, safety tip sheets, safety orientation checklists and information policy sheets. To register, please call Lorenzo Zwaal at (805) 988-5427 or send a fax to (805) 988-6289.

The event is funded by the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation. The program is part of the Commission’s Worker Occupational Safety and Health Training and Education Program (WOSHTEP).
