Employers Insurance Group Donates to Katrina Relief; NIIA Adds $3,000

September 7, 2005

Nevada State Insurance Commissioner Alice Molasky-Arman applauded Employers Insurance Group (EIG) for its pledge of $12,000 to the Salvation Army to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina.

EIG, which maintains corporate headquarters in Reno, also is collecting additional donations through its six western states as EIG employees respond with individual contributions to a companywide call for help for hurricane victims.

“These tragic events remind us of our fragility in the face of natural forces,” said Molasky-Arman. “Disaster can affect anyone without reason or cause. The immediate and generous response of Employers Insurance Group reflects both its corporate generosity, and its increasingly prestigious, industry-wide standing. EIG’s timely corporate response serves as a challenge to other Nevada and western states insurance interests to respond in kind.”

The Nevada Independent Insurance Agents, a statewide trade association, also has announced a $3,000 donation to the Katrina Disaster Recovery Fund. That donation will be split among the three state associations. In addition, they have set up a “buddy system” to help aid the processing of claims filed by hurricane victims.

EIG President and Chief Executive Office Doug Dirks said, “Although Employers Insurance Group does business in western states, we are compelled as corporate citizens to help ease the terrible burden this natural disaster has heaped on Southern neighbors. Our workers’ compensation insurance business is all about sharing risk – in good times and bad – trouble shared is trouble eased.”
