Got Snow? Colo. Residents Pounded with Spring Storm

If you live in Southern California or Florida and have relatives in the Denver area, best not to tell them what the weather is like where you are.

A weekend spring storm pounded the Denver area with almost a foot of snow and closed down I-70 from Aurora east to the Kansas stateline. No major injuries or damages have been reported as of Monday morning, but businesses and schools got the day off, while many folks were left stranded at Denver International Airport.

Road crews from Colorado Department of Transportation kept busy through the night to free major roads and thoroughfares of the wet snow that began falling over the weekend.. I-25, which had been shut down from Denver to the New Mexico state line, reopened early Monday morning. CDOT said some 300 trucks were waiting out the storm on I-70.

Adams, Arapahoe, Douglas and Jefferson Counties, as well as the cities of Aurora, Centennial and Golden were placed on accident alert.

Many utility customers were reportedly still without power. Xcel Energy reported 11,000 customers were without power along the Front Range, though they were able to restore a portion of the service. By Monday morning, that number had reportedly dropped to fewer than 2,000.
