BP Exploration Alaska Receives OSHA Award

The U.S. Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has recognized BP Exploration Alaska, Endicott Field of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, for continued excellence in worker health and safety. A recent ceremony at the field renewed the company’s participation in OSHA’s Star Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) for another five years.

“BP has exhibited excellence in effective safety and health program management,” said Richard Terrill, OSHA regional administrator. “Their outstanding efforts have included significant management commitment and employee involvement.”

BP Exploration Alaska, Endicott Field employs approximately 120 workers who produce crude petroleum, and was initially approved as a “Star” site under OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program in December 2000.

OSHA’s VPP recognizes and promotes effective workplace safety and health management. In the program, management, labor and OSHA establish a cooperative relationship at a worksite that has implemented strong safety and health systems.

VPP sites must implement safe working procedures that meet or exceed all OSHA regulatory standards and submit to an OSHA review of their programs. Companies that have been accepted into VPP represent more than 200 industries and approximately 1,130 work sites.
