The minister may have committed fraud. BUT, that degree of pain is measurable and not just by questioning. If this person had been sent to a qualified pain management clinic and not some all purpose insurance company store front rehab doctor’s office, they could have made an ACCURATE assessment of the problem in the beginning.

The patient couldn’t just fake his way through an exam by a qualified pain specialist. For all we are told, he may have been injured at one time and had found some relief by other methods. Many injured workers are forced to seek alternative treatments because insurance companies don’t want to spend the money to send them to real pain management specialists.

Insurance companies like to cry fraud. But, did they provide an adequate assessment of the patient to begin with?

Then, there is the matter of prevention. Did the insurance company actually send a representative to the workplace to investigate why the worker was injured? Not only could they advise the employer about preventing further injuries, they might have gotten clues indicating a conflict between the injuries claimed and the accident.

It’s all to easy to pass the buck.
