What a wimpy article. I happen to be in Sacramento for about 8 months in 2000 and was able to watch the story unfold during those months close-up. After reading this article in 2007, seven years later, I feel that Quackenbush is still lying about his personal involvement regarding all the money he funneled indirectly toward his or his wife\’s campaign or even towards his sons\’ football camp, or he is the biggest ignorant nincumpoop (sp?)to actually say he had people that he thought he could trust and that it was these people that were responsible for all the theft. Theft. That is what he committed. Theft. He got away with lots of money and no trial for his wrongdoing. I live on Kauai and I am most terrified that this type of mainlander is on the islands and probably going to let some time pass before he tries one of his schemes again on the Hawaiian people.

    Corrina,

I am not going to ascert you are wrong in how you feel about Chuck, but I do feel I like to make one point. I saw this from the inside because I used to work for him, closely. I know the man, as well as the men involved. Chuck really is a decent man. His real crime was his over-trust of people around him. He still had that military officer mentality – trust in your men, don’t micro-manage, bark orders-expect results, etc. I knew that way before this all blew up. Especially in politics, you can’t trust anyone to the levels Chuck did. I even testified to the attorney general’s office the same way. This is the man I knew. At the end, this really was a political game of gotcha, sounds like a cliche I know…but it’s true. Blame the office, his staff and his ignorance for not knowing, but please don’t blame his personal character. He’s a solid guy.

It’s been nearly 8 years since all this happened, and infact this is my first mention of any kind on this matter. And know, I do sympathize if you or your loved ones were effected by this. I really wish all this didn’t happen, cuz now I may be writing you from the Governor’s office somewhere or the US capitol. Regards.
