Excellent article and one that needs more circulation with adjusters and agents. I was an insurance consultant to the survivors of the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest wildfires in Colorado. I tell interested people that this volunteer experience was one of the best of my insurance career. I learned more in that year than all the textbooks and experience had taught me in 44 years. Two big takeaways: the insurance mechanism works and people/survivors are remarkably resilient. Agree with the comments about the psychological impact on the survivors. I found three phases: first 90 days is what is mentioned in the article; second phase starts when they discover how their insurance will help them recover; and final phase is when they are back in their reconstructed or replacement home. Remarkable to see and be a part of.
