South Carolina Officials Target Heavy Equipment Theft Ring

One man has been jailed and another is being sought as county officials in Florence and Clarendon, South Carolina say they’ve discovered a heavy equipment theft ring that operated in six counties.

The Morning News of Florence reported that 31-year-old David Grimsley Jr. of Scranton has been charged with three counts of grand larceny and one count of violating the Motor Vehicle Chop Shop, Stolen and Altered Property Act. Grimsley is being held in the Florence County jail. It was not immediately known whether he has an attorney.

Investigators are looking for another man in connection with the case.

Florence County deputies say bulldozers, excavators, dump trucks, heavy equipment trailers and heavy construction tools were stolen from Florence, Horry, Dillon, Clarendon, Sumter and Orangeburg counties. Some $300,000 worth has been recovered.
