So because NC and OR are the only states that do not permit Terminal Groins and Jettys to protect the inlets and shorelines we should just let it all wash away? Did the federal government let Ft Macon wash away on Atlantic beach when the sands shifted and the inlet had to be constantly dredged to allow fishing boats and the Coast Guard the ability to get thru? No they built a proven protection device that if you look at the before and after aerial views saved that end of the island. All up and down the coasts of our country if they are engineered properly these hardened inlets are surviving and the beaches are saved. If they are abused like in NC and parts of SC then problems occur. If NC wants to see its citizens go off to other states beaches because they have let their own wash away and the billions in tourism dollars with it then thats just horrible! What id SC let Ft Sumter wash away w/o protecting it in the name of “Just because the sands shift”? Either go and condemn all the buildings, high rises and condos/resorts now and let the beaches be home to no one is like Scrooge saying that its good for someone to die and decrease the surplus population. The Army Corps has cut back on inlet dredging due to budget cutbacks so now its up to the cities and towns behind these barrier islands to pay to keep them open or be land locked. So we can then kiss the sport boating and fishing business good bye is what your also saying? NC let the cheap imported tobacco in and that decimated that industry. The hog farmers have polluted the rivers and bays with their run off and alot of them have left a mess to clean up.Furniture and clothing industry has left and gone to China so that doesn’t leave a whole lot left for NC to rely on other then the mountains out in the western part of the state to look at now right?
