It’s unfortunate that the artificial inflation of deer by wildlife agencies and hunters, through the elimination of natural predators and feed plots, is what primarily leads to these increased deer-vehicle collisions. Though hunting season coincides with the fall rut and hunters love to use that as the excuse, it’s well-known by wildlife biologists (and hunters) that deer stick to the forest interiors for mating. It’s the human invasion that drives them out and onto the roads; the smell of people, the loud gunshots, the “drive” method hunters use to push animals in an unnatural direction…the public really needs to be made aware of this.
