North Carolina Fire Department Faces 3 Citations

September 19, 2014

State regulators have cited the Winston-Salem Fire Department for three violations of workplace safety regulations and propose a $6,500 fine.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports the department was cited for having defective equipment, having an outdated exposure control plan and failing to provide certain kinds of training.

Citations were issued after the Occupational Health and Safety Division of the N.C. Department of Labor came to Winston-Salem to conduct inspections that began June 16.

OSHA officials told the city in May that it had received a complaint about 16 alleged OSHA violations.

Fire Chief Antony Farmer said in June that after the department received the complaints, city officials looked at the fire stations and found that no injuries or accidents had taken place because of the items mentioned in the complaint.
