4 Accused in $171,000 Arson Scheme in West Virginia

Four West Virginia residents have been accused of burning a Harrison County home to collect more than $171,000 in insurance money.

The state fire marshal’s office says warrants filed in Harrison County court charge the four with arson, burning insured property and conspiracy. George and Rebecca Bonnell are accused of hiring Chad E. Cook to set fire to their home in the Laurel Valley area in 2011.

The Bonnells and Samuel “Joey” Oldaker were arrested Friday and released after posting bond.

Cook was a Beckley Correctional Center work-release inmate when investigators interviewed him May 22. Cook fled the next day and was caught July 20 in Roanoke, Virginia, where he remains in jail pending extradition.

Oldaker’s role wasn’t immediately known. A fire marshal official said he had no additional information.
