My friend has a vacation home in Orlando and visits for a few weeks each year. He has shutters fitted and when he is not there the shutters are lowered for security. The housing association is claiming that the shutters can only be lowered when there is a hurricane warning and must be raised when the hurricane has passed. Since he is often not at the house when the hurricane warning is given nor when it has passed he cannot comply with this instruction from the housing association. Does the housing association have the right to impose this rule please?

Whenever possible we at APS Hurricane Protection always add an egress opening. With our panels its 2 handles to the inside that allow the customer to remove a panel to allow escape. Typically with our accordion shutters we do an inside lock. Owners can raise the lower window or open a slider door access the lock from the inside and open their shutter. With all of our roll-down shutters we do an interior crank that a handle attaches to and the shutter can be raised manually. I am constantly thinking about 2 exits in every home for emergency escape purposes.
