Fatal Fall From Alabama Riverboat Prompts Lawsuit

Relatives of a University of Alabama student who drowned after falling from the Bama Belle riverboat during a 2012 sorority party have filed a wrongful death lawsuit.

The Tuscaloosa News reports that Tre’ Jones family is seeking at least $10 million in damages from the then-Bama Belle owners, the sorority and a security company that staffed the party.

Jones drowned in the Black Warrior River after falling from the riverboat during Delta Sigma Theta’s spring party two years ago.

His father filed the lawsuit Friday evening. It names as defendants the company that did business as the Bama Belle; S.A.S. Inc., doing business as Stand Alone Security Co.; and the national Delta Sigma Theta organization.

Ownership of the Bama Belle has changed since the drowning.
