This bill will have the general public subsidizing the risk of guns. It will also stop insurers from contributing to the safe storage of guns. More kids will die as guns get left out.

      Tom,

Interesting comment regarding more kids dieing. Can you please show me your evidence that this bill in particular will have the result you imply? Responsible gun owners already take steps to protect children from the danger of firearms, knives, hazardous chemicals……. I subsidize folks who have trampolines and swingsets for kids so it only seems fair that others subsidize gun owners, that is why it is called risk sharing.

Since when do insurance companies get to engage in social engineering?

“Senator Gwen Margolis (D-Miami) said insurers should have the right to question policyholders about gun ownership given the potential danger a firearm can represent.”

Pre-existing conditions are ok when a Dem wants to force an insurance company to do something, but when a Rep wants to force an insurance company to do something, pre-existing conditions (in this case; gun ownership) must be dealt with accordingly. Afterall, it’s for the children she shrieked.

    Hey. Margolis. Move to NY.

From what he’s said recently, you’re the kind of person Andy Cuomo would welcome to that state.

This is rubbish. If I want my insurance company to pick up the pieces when it all goes wrong then they should be aware of the risks. If I have a pool in the back yard, they want to know if it is safe – if I drive a car, they expect me to maintain the brakes.
What is wrong with them asking how I prevent my kids and their friends from accessing my guns?
Nothing for responsible gun owner to fear there!

Come on guys! This is an easy one that doesn’t need more government intervention. We’re insurers. If you’re worried about the risk of gun ownership, just add an exclusion for liability arising out of the ownership of firearms and have a “buy back” at a price. It’s how we do everything else we’re afraid of. That way the gun owner has a choice in whether or not they want the coverage and if they do, they have to be willing to VOLUNTARILY supply the information required. Then nobody is “subsidizing” gun owners as indicated above. We’d be paying our own way.

Yes, I’m a gun-owner. Have been since age 12 and am now in my 60’s.
