Mississippi Court Upholds Arson, Fraud Conviction

November 26, 2013

The Mississippi Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a Tippah County woman on arson and insurance fraud charges.

WTVA-TV in Tupelo reports that Regina Dees was convicted in March of 2012 after investigators say evidence showed a fire at her home in October of 2008 had been deliberately set.

During the investigation, authorities say they discovered items Dees had reported as stolen to an insurance company and received reimbursement for.

She was ordered to serve two years in prison and pay restitution to the insurance company.

Dees claims the evidence presented at her trial was not sufficient to support her conviction.

The Mississippi Supreme Court denied her appeal Thursday.
