Red-Light Cameras in Tuscaloosa Await Final OK

Tuscaloosa officials are working on final approvals for the city’s red-light camera system.

The Tuscaloosa News reports that an updated set of plans for the system has been delivered to the Alabama Department of Transportation.

The newspaper says that once the state approves, the contractor can proceed with installing the cameras and five area intersections.Red Traffic Light And Camera

The Alabama Legislature gave the city permission to install the cameras in 2010.

During a meeting earlier this month, state transportation officials had asked the city to address some concerns, including making sure the cameras have a power source that will not hamper red-light function and that any sidewalks damaged during installation be repaired to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
