Georgia Storms Drop Quarter-Sized Hail, Topple Trees

Residents were cleaning up after Sunday thunderstorms dropped large hail and toppled trees, damaging cars and homes in several Georgia counties.

Reports to the National Weather Service indicated that a tree fell on a car in Oglethorpe. Authorities say trees were also toppled in Coweta County, where a garage sustained significant damage.

Hail around the size of quarters was reported in several parts of Georgia, including Troup, Newton and Wilkes counties.

In Clayton County south of Atlanta, lightning was blamed for a fire at a woman’s home. WSB-TV reports that the mother and daughter were able to safely evacuate the house on Homewood Drive in Jonesboro.

No death or series injuries were reported.
