Mechanical Failure Ruled Out in Georgia Bus Crash

Mechanical failure has been ruled out as a potential cause behind a school bus accident in Covington, Ga., that left over 40 students and adults hospitalized earlier this week.

The Covington News reports the Georgia State Patrol and the state Department of Public Safety examined skid marks on the scene near the Tuesday afternoon crash and determined breaks did not fail on a Newton County school bus that rear ended another bus which had stopped to let passengers off.

Authorities say the driver of the bus that rear ended the other school bus is on medical leave, and disciplinary action is pending.

Covington is about 35 miles southeast of Atlanta.
