NWS: Heavy Rains Creating Flood Threat in Alabama

January 14, 2013

Forecasters say heavy rains will create a flooding threat in parts of west Alabama through Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued flash flood alerts for northwest Alabama and a section of southwest Alabama.

The ground is already saturated with water from rains over the past few days, and forecasters say a slow-moving cold front will cause another round of rain through early Monday.

The weather service says some areas could receive as much as 2 inches of precipitation, causing flooding in low-lying areas and along streams.

A flood watch includes Alabama’s northwestern corner. Forecasters issued a flood warning for an area south of Demopolis along the Mississippi line in southwest Alabama.

The weather service says temperatures will turn colder on Monday, with highs in the 40s and 50s statewide.
