Report Identifies Florida Counties With Oldest Residential Roofs

September 13, 2012

The BuildFax Florida Roof Age Report, based on analysis of its historical residential building permit data, released its list of top 10 Florida counties with the oldest permitted residential roofs.

The company recently reviewed more than five million single family homes in Florida, taking an in-depth look at the current state of Florida residential roofs.

While BuildFax found that two-thirds of the properties reviewed statewide have either a new roof or a roof that has been updated since 2002, it also found that these updated roofs are distributed unevenly around the state. In performing an analysis of these residential properties against the company’s proprietary Roof Age Database, it was able to identify those counties which had the lowest percentage of roofs that have been permitted in 2002 or later.

“In our national database, we see that weather events and ensuing permits often go hand in hand, particularly roof permits,” said Holly Tachovsky, CEO of BuildFax. “In our analysis of Florida roof updates, it makes sense that we’d see geographical clustering of updated roofs around the state.”

“What is also interesting is that in addition to high concentrations of updated roofs we can also see areas which are, in contrast, lagging far behind in permit counts, indicating a lack of permitted roof updates. These counties would appear to have a disproportionate number of old roofs or at least roofs that have not been properly inspected,” says Joe Emison, VP of Research & Development.
