I have an enormous amount of respect for anyone who puts themselves on the line daily to ensure anyone safety good or bad. I have to agree with the courts decision and as to why they ruled that way. It may seem as though it was not justified but when you take a step back and look at the situation you can see that their decision was correct.
There are other avenues that this office is able to take to ensure that he can maintain his health and life. One would be the support of his friends and fellow officers, the other would be donations from friends, family, and his community.
If he happens to read my post I would like to make 1 thing clear. It is not easy to take a life even if it is in the defense of your own. The memory of it will haunt you from every dark corner of your world and it will chase you in everything that you do. To get rid of this darkness you have to hold on to what is closest to you with all your might and not let go. If you allow your guilt to consume you, you will lose everything. People will understand what had to be done the more that you tell your story. Find a way to make it right in your own eyes, find a way for it not to happen again to someone else, and find a way to take your experience and make a difference.
Years from now you will wake in a much better place and you will be thankful for this experience.
Your kidding right…No coverage when you kill someone in the line of duty…No amount of training could prepare someone for taking a life in such a way…If this was a U.S. Soldier who killed someone in Iraq or Afghanistan, instead of a Police Officer in SC, no one would ever call this a good ruling or the PO a wimp…Leave it the State of SC to continue to lower the bar on decency…
Agree good ruling. What about potentially killing someone wasn’t in the job description? Personally, I don’t want my Cops to be pussies — I want warriors and fighters, not Mommy’s Boys who want the whole world to be ‘decent’. News Flash — It’s not, adapt.
