Drunks don’t need the bible. They need punishment to deter their behavior. Why is it our legal system is only reactive vs. proactive? I’m tired of hearing about habitual drunks who are still on the road with multiple DUI convictions. The courts don’t take DUI’s seriously; why should drunks? Here’s a deterrent. First offense, impound the car for 30-days with the owner paying the storage. Also, a 5-day jail sentence.
Second offense, impound the car (regardless of who owns it) for 6 months with the owner paying storage. Also a 30-day jail sentence and the auto insurer notified so the rates increase.
Third offens, confiscate and sell the car (regardless of who owns it). Also, a 5 year jail sentence.
This article does not say it, but she was sentenced to 8 years in jail, 5 years probation and substance abuse counseling in addition to the reading assignment.
