Alabama Insurance Commission Nearing Final Report

July 2, 2012

A panel formed by Gov. Robert Bentley to recommend ways to make homeowners insurance more available in Alabama is closer to issuing a final report.

The Affordable Homeowners Insurance Commission voted Friday to support at least seven changes to state insurance laws that would place limits on some deductibles, require insurers to provide more information to homeowners and give private insurers some incentives to write policies on homes in coastal areas.

The Birmingham News reports the commission put off several other proposals to be considered at a later meeting.

Bentley created the panel last year to address a lack of insurance availability and affordability. It will be up to the governor and state lawmakers to decide whether to adopt its recommendations.
