Court Action Taken to Keep Kentucky County Fire Stations Open

June 18, 2012

A Kentucky judge-executive is asking a federal judge to stop the closure of county fire stations in Bell County, Ky.

Claiming lack of funding, the Bell County Fire Department Inc. is closing their stations in Clear Creek and Brownies Creek and another could close next month.

WYMT-TV in Hazard reports that Judge-Executive Albey Brock filed in federal court a motion for a restraining order to stop the closure of the fire stations.

The motion claims closing the fire stations puts people’s lives a property in jeopardy.

Mark Hayden, attorney for the Bell County Fire Departments, said the fire department is an independently owned entity that can provide fire service to the whole county with the stations that remain open. He said the motion was without merit.
