Arson Fires Continue in West Virginia City

May 17, 2012

The number of arson fires in Huntington, W.Va., continues to grow.

Media outlets report that the latest fires occurred early Tuesday at two houses on opposite sides of the city.

More than 45 arsons have occurred in the city since last November. The earlier fires targeted vacant and abandoned structures. Tuesday’s fires occurred at houses that were occupied.

A babysitter and two children escaped one of the fires without injury. No one was home at the other house that was burned.

Investigators don’t believe the fires on Tuesday are connected.

Last week, two juveniles were charged with setting a fire on a vacant lot. Three other juveniles were charged with setting two unrelated fires at the same location. Police say the juveniles don’t appear to be linked to the earlier arsons.
