Tennessee Automotive Plant Fire Extinguished

February 3, 2012

A fire at a Dickson, Tenn., automotive plant has been extinguished and production has resumed.

Nemak USA is a foundry operation that makes car engine cylinder heads from aluminum. Firefighters said a furnace fire began about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to WSMV-TV in Nashville. Plant management was not available by telephone early Thursday morning.

Fire officials said plant employees worked to contain the blaze, limiting damage. Firefighters used a dry chemical agent to suppress the flames.

About 100 workers were evacuated from the plant when the fire broke out and there were no injuries reported. They were allowed to go back to work after it was extinguished.
