North Carolina Agent Under Investigation After Fender Bender

By MICHAEL BIESECKER | January 25, 2012

A North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement agent is under investigation after wrecking his state car while driving with a revoked license.

Ronald Gilliard was put on paid leave earlier this month following a Dec. 14 fender bender in Charlotte. He was not cited after the wreck.

Records show Gilliard’s driver’s license was revoked June 26, 2011 after he failed to appear in court for two traffic citations.

State Department of Public Safety spokesman Ernie Seneca said Gilliard was asked to turn in his badge and pistol on Jan. 5 and sent home pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

Records show Gilliard was previously demoted at the agency in 2004, shortly after he was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of assault on a female. That charge was later dismissed.
