South Carolina City Doubles Reward for Arson Tips

December 12, 2011

The city of Charleston is now offering $50,000 for tips that lead to the arrest of whoever is responsible for a series of arsons during the past decade.

There have been about 85 suspicious fires since 2000 in an area where U.S. 17 passes through the city.

Last summer, the city offered a $25,000 reward. Now it’s been doubled with $45,000 from the city and $5,000 from the South Carolina Insurance News Service.

Police Chief Greg Mullen says the city has received some tips. But Mullen hopes increasing the award will make the incentive large enough for people to come forward with information that leads to an arrest.
