Shouldn’t the ins. dept. be spending it’s limited resources trying to bring down fraud rings instead of a couple of boneheads who padded a single claim? OTOH, any shop who spells Custom with a “K” is kind of any easy target – I would think government employees would challenge themselves more.
Having reported a $50,000 fraud to NC DOI, wherein the insured admitted the conspiracy involving an independent adjuster, and seeing absolutely nothing done to either one, this bust over a $2000 inflated appraisal is surely a big one for that agency.
I was with an independent adjuster firm and discovered the fraud while making a reinspection because the photos submitted by the adjuster didnt reflect the damage on the appraisal. The fraud was reported to the carrier and NC DOI. The insured admitted it to the NCDOI and nothing was ever done to either him or the adjuster involved.
Amazing, as I have seen them prosecute. Was the I/A’s license suspended? Did he make restitution to the carrier as part of a plea agreement? Sometimes, there are levers being moved behind the scene, which would lead one to reach the incorrect conclusion.
It could be they took the adjusters license, told him never to practice in NC again. Slapped the insured for a few bucks. And that was the end of it. NC DOI is good in taking agents out of the business who shouldn’t be in it. But then they also take complaints from idiots who complain over every little thing.

If you are with a carrier, why no prosecution from your company?
