Looks like what they’re really saying is: “Why should I work when I can just get paid for doing nothing?”

Of course, they’ll have to wait to get paid if they don’t work but it sure seems like they’re just pissed that this isn’t the bonanza they thought it was.

they just wanted more money, but they have to look at this differently as fisherman. they are still working and paying bills. they could be just sitting with nothing to do. unemployment benefits? that could be a huge problem, how many actually have paid for that w/the state?

Obviously you have not a clue what is cost to run a boat..ie gas, paying a crew, not to mention the damage that this oil is doing to these boats!! Bonanza??? If you think that anyone around here wants to sit around doing nothing and collect money..then you are barking up the wrong community! Just another BP/government ploy to not take care of their MESS! Let me guess..you voted for Obama???

Does the anonymous poster not know the difference between indemnity and profiteering? I thought it was insurance savvy people who read IJ? Guess not all of them.

These claims are being paid in a fashion similar to a business interruption claim under an insurance policy. The claimants are not going to profit, but will be imdenified. If an individual would rather sit around, do nothing and grab an “entitlement” he can do so, or he can be part of the solution to the problem. Hard workers with ethics will prefer to work for the cleanup!

I can’t see how these boat owners can’t wrap their minds around mitigating their loss and seeking the net loss from fishing rather than looking at their effort as two business, one a clean up, the other fishing. As fisherman, you would think they know what a “net” is. This is going to get messy (pun intended). This morning I saw someone complaining that the fund doesn’t cover the lost earning from the President’s moratorium. Apparently, the fund is not also an “unemployment” fund. I see claims coming similar to the “six degrees of Kevin Bacon”.

i agree because then they can at least make more money than unemployment pay bills including food and shelter…and then get compensated for the balance of the missing income… better to feel like working than sitting…

I agree that we don’t understand what it cost to run and man these boat. If you look at these fishermen that are not wealthy people. This whole mess as really come at a bad time for them and they are willing to use their boats to help with this clean up.

I think they are just trying to say that the clean up isn’t paying what the fishing would be and then Uncle O want’s the short them even on that.

I don’t think they should be paid twice but I do think this should be fair the them but with Feinberg in charge it’s like one for them two for me….one for them…two for me.

That Bacrak Hussein Obama’s moritorium losses WOULD be covered out of the $20 billion…..?
He wants us to import more oil to cost us more and to give more $ away as that further weakens America. BTW tankers account for most oil spills world wide and BHO likes that too.
