North Carolina Woman Arrested on Insurance Fraud Charge

Annette J. Porter of Raleigh has been arrested and charged with one count of obtaining property by false pretense, according to North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin.

Insurance department investigators allege that Porter defrauded Nationwide Insurance in the amount of $2,916. In September 2009, Nationwide sent Porter a check in that amount to settle a claim that was filed after she was injured in an automobile accident. Porter allegedly told Nationwide she did not receive the check and requested a replacement. An investigation found Porter received and cashed both checks.

Porter was processed at the Wake County Public Safety Center and placed under a $3,000 secured bond.
