Isn’t it ironic how the MSHA always finds violations and assesses fines AFTER something happens? Most of the time, the violations have nothing to do with the accident that prompted the inspections. Just another revenue source for the state. I love the fine for a “tripping hazard above ground”. Now that’s serious stuff. Ever been to a coal mine? The entire operation is a tripping hazard. These people need to get serious and realize no matter how hard anyone tries, mining will always be dangerous. It’s a risk miners assume.
