North Carolina Woman Charged with Submitting Phony Bills to Insurer

April 20, 2010

Laurinburg resident Candice Dawn Barrington has been charged with one count each of insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, according to North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin.

Department investigators allege that Barrington was involved in a traffic accident in October 2009 and submitted two phony medical bills to her insurance company, North Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance. The company paid her $1,033.21 in medical payments.

Officials said that Barrington was processed at the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office and released on a written promise to appear.
