Working in the mines is a hard way to make a living and it is crucial to the economy throughout Appalachia.

Here’s hoping these fellows make it out alive and that mine safety will be improved for future generations.

Safety violations do not necessarily mean the mine was being run unsafely. we all know that onerous government regs are, like victimless crims, they create criminals where none are. Whose to say that the miners who have been injure dor killed were not the ones directly responsible for the unsafe act that killed them? Only due to workes’ compensation being no fault are owners implied the guilty party.

Ron: Hopefully, you speak from experience. I will admit that I do not. I have never worked in that business. I do know that federal laws make it nearly impossible to shut a mine down for safety violations until an accident such as this happens. Check the history of this operator before you start blaming the miners. They have had fatal accidents before. They dropped out of some of the associations common to mine operators when the heat became a too intense for them to deal with multiple violations in recent years.
