That is great. Now, the State must investigate insurance companies that deny most claims. Some insurers, like United Automobile, deny most clamis and the State does nothing. United Auto uses doctors that say nothing should be paid all the time. The State does nothing. United Auto sends their insureds to their doctors and to give statements. They know a certain percent will not show and they use this as a basis to deny the claim. Something should be done when insurance companies wrongly deny claims as well.

I have worked for many companies over the last 20+ years in an adjustor capacity, and whereas some of the companies out there are more aggressive than others, this would be a case of a “Dog chasing his own tail”

Used to be that runners would be out there, setting people up with medical treatment whether they needed it or not.

Of course that evolved. The runners have been replaced with more blatant solicitation efforts. Now, hotlines and advertisements such as 800-NEED HELP or 800-411-PAIN draw the accident victim in with promises of automatic payments of “$10,000 in benefits and lost wages.” These hotlines are owned and run by accident clinics and attorneys who to lure victims into the typical PIP scenario. Once a person calls into the hotline, he is automatically hooked up with an accident clinic and attorney and begins to receive $12,000 to $15,000 worth of unnecessary medical treatment. No matter what his injuries were (if any at all), which are then billed to the insurance carrier. The plaintiff lawyer would then use this bogus treatment to build a bodily injury case against the at-fault driver, or to file the PIP suit against the insurance carrier. There are law firms out there who solely make their money on PIP suits, suing for as little as five cents so they can move forward for their “fees”.

Unfortunately, the entire PIP system is being exploited in Florida.

Companies like United are what they are, non standard carriers that are the target in most cases of this type of fraud. Progressive who was the leader in non standard auto now makes it very difficult for a person to get a PIP/PD only policy and you must prove who you are before binding coverage, and no cash payments. Other carriers are starting to follow suit, but the state needs to do more about fraud enforcement and bust more of these rings. It’s funny that Parillo was chiming in on the company that he owns, to bad he could not spell the name correctly. Seems that the crooks have been run out of Miami and are now seeking refuge in Tampa, Orlando and other places now. Hey Alex Sink, you want to be Governor, your current job includes oversight of a fraud division. How about giving them some more power, authority and funding to go after these idiots that cost us all more money on insurance premiums.
