All insurance carriers in all states should endorse their auto policies with a “special deductible” for vehicle theft when the theft occurs because the vehicle was unlocked, or left with the keys in the ignition. ACIA (AAA Insurance) did something similar years ago in Michigan when auto thefts were out of control. They slapped a $1,000 deductible on all comprehensive theft claims for vehciles that were not “forcibly entered”. This was IN ADDITION to the comp deductible.

Would you want to steal a frosted, freezing cold car that is hard to start or a nice warm one that just begs to be taken? No contest!!
