Disagree sir!! Just because youy knew it was bad for you doesnt mean anything. Just means yopu were willing to gamble with your life. But…. These companies knowingly laced the tobacco with certain drugs and chemicals that caused you to continue to want the fix. Period. Believe what yopu want. They used you and anyone else that smoked. They should be put out of business for that sin.

Milo, you must be a democrat, as most of them do not believe in personal responsibility, they need someone, ie: the govenment, to tell them what to do. I smoked for thirty four years and quit cold turkey, have not had a puff since 1986. Must be “selective” chemicals they put in the smokes. I knew when I started that tobacco was bad for you. Check and see how old the song that states that a cigarette is “just another nail in my coffin”, circa 1950 or so.

As an ex-smoker I didn’t need anyone to tell me that smoking was bad for me. The hacking and coughing every morning and every time I tried to laugh told me everything I needed to know. These types of awards are abusive.

She won’t live long enough to enjoy the money, but her lawyer will.

THis is truly obscene – “we” make that decision to smoke (dumbies that we are) I smoked for 35+ys and decided it time to stop this death spiral, couldn’t afford them today. Maybe, I say maybe pay medical but punis, give me a break, she made the decision to smoke and now must “live” well try to exist with her decision. We make decisions everyday, some good and some not so…deal with it!

I am going to start smoking. A pack of cigarettes is much cheaper than life insurance premium, and the payout is much better. I can’t get a company to write a $300 million limit on me.

My kids will be much better off with this plan, rather than relying on my crappy 401k.

If you want to stop absurb law suits stop absurb fees by atty’s. ie. Rather than atty’s being able to collect upwards of 40% of settlements they should be made to charge hourley rates like most every professional.

Uh – it was the JURY that awarded this sum, not the lawyer. The jurors would give virtually no consideration to the attorney’s fees. Even if they thought he/she should be paid something, this run away jury was not awarding excessive punis just to pay the attorney.

By the way, most attorneys charge a contingency of 50% if the matter actually goes to trial.
