Kentucky Officials Say Median Barriers Working to Prevent Crashes

Median barriers put up along parts of a Kentucky interstate are being credited by transportation officials with preventing numerous vehicles from possibly crossing into oncoming lanes.

A state Transportation Cabinet regional spokeswoman told The News-Enterprise of Elizabethtown that two eight-mile sections of cable barrier in Hardin County prevented possible lane crossovers about six times.

The newspaper says cable barrier also was installed along 12 miles of I-65 in Hart and Barren counties, and six miles of I-65 in Bullitt County. According to the Transportation Cabinet, the 18 combined miles of cable barrier in Bullitt, Hart and Barren counties had been impacted 18 times as of Aug. 10.

The area cabinet spokeswoman, Becky Judson, says that shows the median barriers are working.
