Marshall University is paying a former athletic compliance director David Ridpath $200,000 to settle his lawsuit against the school.
Marshall spokesman Bill Bissett announced the financial terms.
Ridpath claimed the Huntington, West Virginia university used him as a scapegoat after it was placed on four years probation and stripped of some football and basketball scholarships.
He says he reported academic violations to the NCAA in 1999. The NCAA cited Marshall booster Marshall Reynolds in 2001 for providing extra work benefits for Marshall athletes.
After the sanctions were imposed, Ridpath was demoted and later fired.
The lawsuit had named Marshall’s Board of Governors, then-president Dan Angel, then-football coach Bob Pruett and general counsel F. Layton Cottrill.
