What you don’t hear about in any of these stories is the hell that firefighter Tendam was put through during his employment with LFD. He was constantly picked on, tormented, and the blunt of jokes by his peers at LFD. He was PUSHED OVER THE EDGE by his peers. He was admitted two seperate times to Wabash Valley. The latter of the two times, he had just been released the day before the fires were started from Wabash and had been on medication. If you read the reports, you can tell they were dealing with a distraught, mentally unstable person at that time. He was actually on FMLA leave from LFD when this occurred. I do not condone any of Tendam’s actions that day. However, I believe that he was suffering from temperary insanity and could not control his actions on that day. If I was him, I would be getting a good attorney and filing suit against LFD. They cost him his employment as well as his sanity as they continually used him as a punching bag. (yes they were physical with him on many occassions) Shame on you LFD!! I just want the public to know the whole, real story, instead of the personal smear campaign that the city and LFD has used against firefighter Tendam. His reputation, as well as his ability to secure employment has been tarnished for good.

The LFD did not cause Eric to burn his house. Eric Tendam did not choose insanity. As a firefighter he would have probably had the necessary knowledge to burn it in a less conspicuouse way if he had the expectation of being reimbursed by his Insurance carrier. The events that have followed and the charges pending against him, would certainly increase his mental health problems. He continues to go back to the burned up property and remove things from the inside and burn them either in a fire pit outside or in the furnace in his garage. He should be prohibitted from doing that. Prior to burning his house he had several fires in his back yard, burning large and small household items and often had smoke coming out of the chimney of his garage, even in 90 degree whether.
That being said, it would be a shame to see him sent to a prison (at a cost to the taxpayers of $45,000+ per year) because he has is mentally ill and needs to be in a mental health facility. His house needs to be torn down and he has no money to pay for it. Most of his neighbors are angry with him because the house is a wreck and looks awful and he has strewn things from inside the house all over his yard. I do not know whether the large woman in the green SUV with Illinois plates, who had been a frequent visitor that was there visiting him and left early in the morning prior to the fire was questioned, but maybe she could explain his state of mindlessness on that day. Erics neighbors will tell you he burn things often and that they had asked him to stop doing it months before his house burned because of the smoke. He continues to goes back to the house and burns things late at night and early in the morning. Erics neighbors concluded that he is not the kind of person that should have been hired as a Firefighter several years ago. Why didn’t his superiors figure that out.
