West Virginia Construction Industry Commites to Safety Alliance

January 12, 2009

The construction industry is collaborating with West Virginia University to develop a program to better train workers in safety.

Chandler Swope, president of Swope Construction Co. in Bluefield, has committed $30,000 over the next two years to create the West Virginia Safety Alliance. The money will go to the West Virginia University Safety and Health Extension program to facilitate the program.

Under the alliance, construction companies will work together to improve their safety performance by sharing ideas, experiences and resources.

The program will create three regional safety alliances that will meet quarterly, bringing contractors and their employees together to talk about safety.
