A former Huntsville, Alabama resident is suing a funeral home, alleging he was given the remains of a stranger after his wife was cremated.
The lawsuit against Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville was filed on behalf of Richard Henry Parrott, whose wife was cremated in 2006.
The suit said Parrott did not discover the mix-up until he was packing for a move to Orlando, Fla., in October and noticed a label on the bottom of the urn that stated it contained someone else’s remains.
His attorney, J. Brent Burney, said the most pressing issue is to find the remains of Parrott’s wife.
John Purdy, owner of the funeral home, told The Huntsville Times he did not know about the lawsuit and has not been told about the alleged problem.
The suit seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
