Fire doesn’t stop West Virginia Flea Market

September 26, 2008

The Milton Flea Market will be up and running just two weeks after a devastating fire ripped through the business.

After a heavy cleanup effort, the flea market’s outdoor business will be open Saturday and Sunday, with about 212 booths for vendors.

Owner Boyd Meadows says he wanted vendors to have a chance to sell their merchandise in time for Christmas.

The flea market had 300 booths run by 130 vendors and drew an estimated 10,000 visitors each weekend.

This week, the U.S. Small Business Administration made low-interest disaster loans available to West Virginia and Ohio residents and businesses affected by the blaze.

There were no injuries, but vendors — many of them uninsured — lost thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise.
