It’s about time people are forced to take responsibility for their own health and well being. Why shouldn’t health coverage pricing reflect experience like car insurance? Particularly on controllable conditions.
This is a terrible idea. It only mentions obesity and nothing about the three other health problems considered. This could also possibly fall under the catagory of discrimination or going against the ADA. But hey let those that aren’t troubled with genetic disorders skate while those troubled with bad genes have to pay. Perhaps they should think about charging those with eating disorders like anorexia and bulemia more for insurance too since they pose a health risk to themselves.
Victoria — IF you read (or knew how to read) the article it CLEARLY states all the health issues — If the screening turns up serious problems with blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose or obesity. Sorry but that POS thing called the ADA would not be in play here. Sorry but being fat, morbidly or otherwise, is not a (real) disability and should NEVER be considered as one.
Not needed, some companies already fire or do not hire smokers. Let’s cull out all the physically and mentally unacceptable people. Modern eugenics at work.
There’s all kinds of surcharges we can come up with. Pretty soon we won’t be insuring anyone that actually USES health services and we can all make a fortune.
Conditions like high blood pressure and cholesterol have been linked to genetics so now companies are going to be allowed to charge these people more who did not get to pick the health problems their parents passed on. What is next, parents are going to be allowed what dispositions they pass on to their children creating a super human race?

Sounds like a good idea to me… but define obesity, please. If it’s based on Body Mass Index, that scale is terribly flawed.

WHO IS DISABLED (MENTALLY) IS ANYONE WHO THINKS OVEREATING IS A DISABILITY!
They also charge smokers a surcharge on their insurance in preparation…
