And how do consumers win here? Who will buy the 100,000 policies that they are REQUIRED to sell at rates that are still above most other carriers? Do I hear a Citizens takout coming? So they cherry pick the best of the ones that their agents placed in Citizens over the last 2 years. I am quite disappointed that they agreed to this. Now they looked like they lied about all of it. I am not an Allstate agent and not insured by them, but their action will certainly affect all carriers in the future and that means I will likely be affected.

Allstate is notorious for trying to get around the rules. In Arizona they are the most arbitration oriented company in our industry and seldom pay a claim without arbitrating it. Their agents are the most unprofessional and unethical agents in the business here and seems that is the case elsewhere also in their operating areas from the news on the web about their company. Their in trouble in california also. Very bad company that seeks to bend the rules to their advantage and never looks out for the best interest of the customer. By the way they were rated 37th out of 40 companies for how poorly they handle their claims here also. But you know as they Say “that’s allstate’s stand”!! Trouble is they don’t stand for anything but themself.

I’m always fascinated by these blanket type statements. Does anyone know what the complaint ratio for Allstate is in Florida? I only had them once a long time ago for a year and they were great back then. Government agencies are great at blackmail by way.

the only thing that is a blanket statement is the complaints coming in from all over the country on allstate. But don’t let the facts confuse your “opinion”. Fact is Allstate is a renegade company who no one is in “good hands” with. Pretty clear to see that and if it’s not I would recommend a good eye doctor.

I asked a valid question. Out of the millions of policies written, how many acutal complaints are filed against Allstate? I have no connection to Allstate or any interest in them as a company. I just dislike blanket statements made with no numbers or proof of any kind to back up the statement. I am protective of my industry and dislike the insurance company hater crowd posting these types of statements. I hate to see someone find this site when they are totally ignorant of my industry and the good people who work in it. Not all people or companies in my industry are great, but most of the people I have dealt with are decent and hard working.

nobody important your really missing the point if your asking for a specific number of complaints against allstate. Who knows that information exactly? Do you? The point is pretty well laid out in this article alone not to mention the many other instances where Allstate has been in trouble with the law ( i.e. the san francisco earthquake) remember? Also your assuming that someone reading an insurance journal article and posting a comment is not in the industry and is someone ignorant that just found this site is really quite “ignorant” don’t you think. On the contrary I am an agent and have been in the business for 13 years. I am very well informed and speak from facts not opinions. So why don’t you tell me the exact number of complaints against allstate out of the millions of policies, as you put it!! These are not small complaints and it is really rather quite ironic that you seek to minimize the magnitude of Allstates violations. They are rather rampant throughout a number of states. You should be aware of that if you are really informed. Please get up to date and more in tune with facts not fiction.

If you are in the industry you know that the insurance departments track complaints. That’s the information that I was referring to. Otherwise it’s just rumor. There are facts out there for people actually willing to do the research. Unless all you care about is complaining. I have done that myself so I can sympathize. In my over thirty years in the insurance business I have certainly done my share of complaining.

so what is your point in relation to this factual information provided now and in the past in relation to Allstate’s continuous problems with various states insurance departments and having made numerous violations of insurance law and claims handling?

The point is simple, rather than taking a few isolated situations, look at the total number of policies written and claims handled. If the ratio of complaints is high and the number of policies written is large, the company is a bad player. If the ratio is one of the lower ones it means they are not, generally. Any company can have a problem and handle it so it receives negative publicity. Any complaint can be built up in the press to be more significant than what it really is. The posts on this site have enough uninformed insurance company haters without having people who are in the industry taking half truths and blowing them out of proportion. You have a responsibility to your own industry to think and research before you make blanket statements. Or, you can just be another insurance company hater like so many others who post on this site. Your choice since this is only an opinion site and you are entitled to your opinion.

I am a former Allstate agent, and my experience with Allstate does confirm that there are a huge number of complaints from customers and agents on both claims, and constant rate increases.
Allstate shows neither their customers or agents any respect when it comes to claims, and underwriting. It is all about the dividends for the shareholders, and the huge bonuses for the CEO, not to mention the huge amount of money spent on trips for agents and management to places such as Rome and Australia. These trips are supposed to be a rward for agents, but in fact they are nothing more than an expensice party for the upper management. Hmmmm I wonder who pays for all of this? Could it be Allstate’s clients?
