I agree with you. Why in the world would they send them to Tampa General which has a crappy reputation as it is with no specialists and 1 hr away when they could go to ORMC/Arnold Palmer which has one of the most well known children’s hospitals and dedicated specialists in every field less than 30 mins away? That makes no sense. Maybe the parents should be sued for stupidity.

ad, abortions are not legal at 7 months. I don’t know what planet you live on.

The article lacked enough facts to really make a judgement of the award.

    DDD, I guess from Earth.

You should research before you post, especially if you’re going to criticize.

I knew New York used to allow abortions in the third trimester when I wrote my post. It might not be legal in your state, but it is legal in some. You sparked my curiousity, and this is what I found:

No state allows an abortion because the fetus is considered “non-human” (your words) or not viable at 7 months. Even your research specifies that ONLY in the case the mothers life and/or health is treatened.

That’s not what I am seeing. The first column is “State Prohibits Some Abortions After a Certain Point in Pregnancy,” and I see a lot of states that do not Prohibit. What are you seeing different. Pick the state of New Hampshire or Vermont, click the state, and look at the laws.

It still does not help your position if you’re going to be rude. I use the term “non-human” making a sarcastic statement towards Planned Parenthood. A fetus does not mean that to me.

Again, if it can be discarded in New Hampshire or Vermont, it is still amazing that it has $12 M worth in this jury’s eyes.

    I can clarify this-

I was faced with this situation at 23 weeks. A baby with limited chance of survival and no chance at any quality of life. I had to provide substantial proof of the doctor’s finding (two opinions) before I was even considered for an abortion.

There is NO state that just lets a woman have an abortion after 20 weeks for no medical reason. There are even some that won’t allow it for fetal anomaly.

Pro-lifers love to throw out that ‘legal late term abortion’ without the details. Less then 5% of all abortions are performed later then 20 weeks. NONE are because the mother ‘changed her mind’ as the ‘abolish abortion’ criers would have you believe.

Basically, it’s a Roe V Wade overturn movement that makes what is already a devastating situation 100 times worse.

I went to a legal clinic, was treated worse then an animal by a doctor that has a nerve to call himself such. All because pro lifers have made it so dangerous (personally and professionally) that only one doctor in Fla will even perform abortions after 18 weeks.

So to compare the two situation is ignorant, at best.

Sorry to find out you went to 50 states to test that theory. Must have been rough.

By the way, don’t clump fanatics with pro-lifers. Now that IS ignorant.

I have become very involved with protecting women’s rights.

I’m guessing you have no idea what that even means. Other then how you can use it for sarcasm.

I actually read. I actually listen to politicians and petition against those that are voting to limit women’s rights. Doesn’t matter which state they’re in. It only takes 1 to make life worse for women across the country. I am ashamed to admit that until my life was affected, I wasn’t involved or interested in how slanted the system is against the health and welfare of women.

I’d bet that Mr. Tripp has an office right next to the hospital and he is mining gold in Tampa. There are probably more attorneys nearby than medical specialists….now one of my own prejudices: why aren’t the parents married? (I assumed that since they have different surnames)

    Picture and related story at:
    http://content.momstampabay.com/moms/momsarticle.aspx?storyid=82848&catid=15

Eighteen babies died at the hospital from the same untreated intestional problem. Ten (or eleven depending on which article you read) of them were in a fifteen month period addressed in the several cases mentioned in the IJ article.

The administration was impeached twice at time of trial. The hospital that transferred baby Robert to Tampa General required assurances he would be seen by a neonatal surgeon — he was not seen by one or treated. The administration stated they had contacted another expert that indicated that treatment would not help him. The expert indicated Tampa General did not call her. Baby Robert’s condition was treatable, but Tampa General had gone some years as a level III hospital without having a neonatal surgeon that could treat the condition.

The verdict seems to be an attempt to make up with money what should have been prison sentences for the hospital administration.
