Mississippi Couple’s Katrina Suit against USAA Goes to Trial

Jackson County, Mississippi’s first Hurricane Katrina insurance lawsuit headed to the courtroom Monday.

Admiral James W. Lisanby and his wife, Gladys Kemp Lisanby, are suing their insurance company, USAA, over damage to their waterfront home from the August 2005 storm.

Lisanby is now 80 years old and his wife is 79. They say they don’t know what they will do when the trial ends. For now, they’re living in a one-bedroom cottage on their lot.

The Lisanbys are seeking policy limits for their losses, plus punitive damages because they believe USAA intentionally and unfairly underpaid their claim.

USAA says the Lisanbys were paid for wind damage their policy covers.
