Tennessee authorities arrested one person and a man is being sought on arson charges for a large fire that destroyed three businesses in downtown Baxter, Tenn. in March.
The fire consumed an entire block, nearly a third of the downtown area in the town about seven miles west of Cookeville.
No one was injured.
Putnam County deputies arrested Tabatha Charmane Whittenburg, of Algood, June 11 after a grand jury indicted her on two counts of aggravated arson. The 25-year-old’s bond was set at $100,000.
Officials indicted a second person whose name was not released pending his arrest. Local detectives worked with State Bomb and Arson agents to lead to the indictments.
Sheriff David Andrews said the fire was a huge economic loss for the community.
Andrews declined to discuss a motive or how the fire was started.
