I don’t know of many 16-19 year old males who would put up with having his a s s grabbed for THREE YEARS without saying or doing something about it. A kid that old is not helpless. But we must remember…. “it’s not about the money”.

I don’t trust ministers, pastors, popes, priests, and anyone else of authority who hide behind mythical beings.
    Will the madness ever stop?

Easter Bunny: bold position you have there. I hope you have the courage to maintain it when you’re on your death bed. Don’t punk out and start praying to hedge your bet.

Good point Diane, but God will accept even a death bed prayer because he desires that no one perish without knowing him. God is more gracious than we are. Otherwise, Easter bunny and Dread would be in a world of hurt. Dread sounds pretty cold-hearted. I guess the young man just allowed himself to be abused with the hopes that one day he could file a lawsuit and hope he would get rich. Perhaps Dread has overlooked that the young man may have been around 15 at the time of the first incident. We do not know the circumstances, but normally abusers are able to do so because they are authority figures and are trusted by their victims. Shame may have prevented him from telling anyone immediately. Or perhaps threats by the abuser. Often the victims are not threatened directly. Rather, they are told that something bad will happen to someone in their family if they tell anyone.

Father Chuck was a great man, and undeserving of these allegations. Sadly, he is no longer here to defend himself or his good name.

And now this kid has gone from being abused “at church” to being abused “at Key Club functions”, all the while giving inconsistent stories to investigators and the diocese. It is all about the money… and I suspect he’ll keep adding names until *SOMEONE* pays out.

I don’t buy the argument that this “young man” was only 15 when this started. First of all, where were his parents in terms of teaching him about such things and how to avoid them? Secondly, life isn’t a simple “walk in the park”. There are dangers and young people need to learn quickly how to defend themselves. A 15 year old should have been able to discern something wasn’t quite right here. This “victim mentality” is starting to make me sick.

While I agree that parents should prepare their children for such circumstances and a 15-year-old should have some knowdedge of ways to avoid/prevent such incidents, unfortunately the fact is that abuse still takes place. I did not know Father Chuck and I do not know if the allegations are true or not; however, some research indicates that less than 2 percent of abuse reports made by children and 6 percent of those made by adults were determined to be false, suggesting that false allegations are rare. My comment was just to point out that Dread oversimplified the matter, dismissed the claims out of hand and was passing judgment without all of the facts. If the young man was 15 (he is now 19 and the incidents were reported to have started in 2003), he would seem a little older than most firt-time abuse victims. (The average age for first abuse is 9.9 years for boys.) However, it is not unheard of to have a teen victim. Often these victims are isolated, have few friends or are immature in some way. While I am not claiming this to be the case here as I do not know the circumstances, I am just saying that we can neither condemn the Father or the victim based on the few facts we have in this article and Dread seemed to be cold-heartedly judging the victim and making accusation of his own with regard to the article.

The young man and his family also thought they knew Father Chuck. Unfortunately, public appearances are not always correct.

Or he targeted a dying man to pin his suicide attempt on.

Well stated Easter Bunny. Sorry if the kid was 8, 10, 12 or even 14 I might believe the story. Before I got my wings, if some guy grabbed my @ss when I was 16, I would have punched his lights out not let it happen for three years. I guess I should have given my more under his pillow for those teeth…
